We successfully defeated the challenge to our gun safety background check law

In 2014, Washington voters said yes to closing the gun show loophole when they passed Initiative 594, requiring background checks for private gun sales.

But the gun lobby fought back by filing a legal challenge. My office stepped up to defend this common sense gun safety measure.

We won.

I'm proud to announce the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit unanimously dismissed the challenges to I-594.

Background checks dramatically reduce dangerous individuals' access to guns.

As Attorney General, I will continue fighting for common sense gun safety laws, including a ban on the sale of assault weapons and high capacity magazines in Washington state.

I'm glad you're with me.
